How to Fix "No WiFi" Grayed Out Problem on Itouch

Oct 5, 2010 01:28 AM

So, your ipods broken (no wifi)...maybe you got it wet, dropped it, overheated it, or it just failed internally. You've tried to get apple to replace it, but your warranty is voided, or expired.

Never fear! There is a quick fix for your "no wifi" problem.

-Things you need

  1. a hair dryer (one that blows really hot air)
  2. some sort of stand for the ipod and hair dryer (duck tape and a chair...?)

-Steps

  1. find the black spot on your ipod (the antenna cover)
  2. mount your ipod and blow dryer so that the antenna is half an inch from the blow dryer. Make sure that the air from the blow dryer moves past the antenna and over the top of the ipod, and doesnt end up cooking the whole casing.
  3. turn on the blow dryer, and wait a couple minutes.
  4. now turn on your ipod, go to Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings. Let the ipod reboot, and then try to access wifi settings. THIS WILL NOT WORK THE FIRST TIME (unless your lucky)
  5. keep resetting your network settings until you see the wifi icon "ungrayed".
  6. the wifi will work for about three hours, then it will stop working, and just not find any networks. DO NOT REBOOT YOUR DEVICE AT THIS TIME.
  7. when the ipod no longer finds any networks (ie, the loading "wheel" continues to go round and round), repeat steps 1-3, only rather than resetting the network settings, just turn the wifi on and off until it shows a network, or the "wheel" stops revolving. After repeating steps 1-3 about 4 times, the wifi will work permanently (unless you brake your ipod in some other way)

Warnings

  • I am not responsible for any harm that comes to your ipod.
  • do not overheat the ipod, if it starts smoking or melting, STOP IMMEDIATELY and allow the ipod to cool down before resuming the steps.
